Sedation Dentistry

Have you been postponing a simple dental checkup, restorative care or a brand new smile because of fear?

Why Sedation Dentistry

Imagine going to the dentist, lightly sleeping through your treatment, and waking up to a beautiful new smile. It’s possible with sedation dentistry, also known as “sleep dentistry,” a wonderful new feature of modern dental care. This treatment is ideal for those with dental fears or for lengthy procedures. During your sedation consultation at Parkway Plaza Dental we will explain all the details about the sedation appointment.

Fearful patients can choose conscious sedation dentistry. Once you have experienced conscious sedation, you will most likely never be afraid to go to the dentist again. Sleep dentistry is a completely safe treatment option, which will leave you relaxed and extremely comfortable. The sedation is just enough to be unaware of the treatment, as if you were asleep.

Conscious Sedation

Sleep dentistry is a completely safe treatment option, which will leave you relaxed and extremely comfortable. We can repair years of dental problems in just a few visits. Broken teeth can be restored, sore gums restored to health, root canals can be completed with ease and comfort.

Prior to treatment you will take a small capsule, by the time you arrive you will be very drowsy. As you are sedated by the medication, we ask that you have a friend or family member drive you to and from your appointment. When you arrive at our office, you will be escorted into a comfortable room and placed on a monitor to watch your vital signs. Our staff will make sure you are very comfortable, offering warm blankets and assisting you in any way they can. As you begin to drift off, the dental procedures are administered and completed.

Deep Sedation

For those with more extreme fears, we offer deep sedation dentistry. This entails a complete sedation through IV with an anesthesiologist.

Sedation dentistry is a term that refers to the use of anesthesia during treatment to put patients into a relaxed state, almost like sleep. Sedation dentistry is often used during procedures that require an extensive amount of time in the treatment chair, and sedation is ideal for patients who exhibit dental phobia or have difficulty controlling their movements. While sedation dentistry implies that patients are unconscious, this is usually not the case. Some forms of sedation dentistry simply alleviate anxiety or put patients in a sleep-like state, so that little is felt or remembered from the dentistry procedure.
